Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Nature Park

Sierra de Baza Natural Park
 

Overview
The Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Nature Park is located south-west of the province of Ourense and borders with Portugal. It covers a total of 20,920 hectares. It is an area characterised by mountains, rivers, waterfalls and mixed forests. Two different types of climates exist here which suit both Mediterranean and Atlantic species of vegetation.

Walking
The park has many hiking trails.

Animals/Birds
Mammals found here include wolves, roebuck, mountain goats, wild horse and otters. Birds of prey are well represented by Short-toed eagle, Golden eagle and Bonelli’s eagle. Other animals include grass snake, Bocage’s Wall lizard and common and midwife toad.

Plants
The Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Nature Park supports a huge diversity of vegetation due to its different climates. Oak groves along with cork oaks, Pyrenean pine, Scots pine, yew, English holly, oak, Spanish chestnut, ash, alder, birch, hazel, willow and strawberry trees all grow here.
