Overview
The Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve is located in the Alto Valle del Río Guadiana (High River Guadiana Valley) and it marks the border between Ciudad Real and Albacete. It is a wetland area which consists of network of 15 lagoons. Each is linked with the other by a series of waterfalls which acts as part of a natural drainage system for the Campo de Montiel aquifer. The reserve covers an area of 3,772 Hectares

Walking
Ruidera has an information centre. There are a few areas of the reserve which are off limits due to wildlife conservation; the rest can be visited without exception.

Sightseeing
There are many interesting towns nearby which have cultural and artistic interest, these include Ossa de Montiel, Argamasilla de Alba and Villanueva de los Infantes. Other places of interest are the Cave of Montesinos and the Castle of Rochafrida.

Animals/Birds
The lagoons waters are home to barbel, carp, pike, water snakes and tortoises.

Plants
The predominant vegetation in the Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve consists of reeds, bulrushes and rushes Also found here are junipers and holm oaks.
