The Sierra Crestellina Natural Area is located north of the village of Casares and consists of a limestone ridge and some surrounding area covering a total of 478ha.  The ridge is 926m at its highest point.

Casares is close by and should be included in a visit to this area as it is crowned by an Arabic castle and contains a vast amount of different architecture.

Griffon vultures, Bonnelli's eagles, common kestrels, peregrine falcons, Egyptian vultures are all found here. Other birds include crag martins, red-billed choughs and blackcap.  One of the most common mammals is the Egyptian Mongoose.

There is plenty of variety in vegetation.  Predominately it is Mediterranean scrubland, however, woodlands of cork, gall and holm oak are also found here as well as wild olive trees.
