Laguna Grande Natural Area

Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park
 

Overview
The Laguna Grande Natural Area covers a total of 200ha.  It is the largest saltwater lake in the Jaen Province.

Walking
The lake has a footpath which allows the visitor to walk around the lake.  There is also a bird hide there.

Animals/Birds
Many different species of bird inhabit the area including: teal, shoveler, pochard, cormorant, coot, little bittern and mallard.  Purple gallinules, purple and grey herons among others use the area for breeding.  Birds of prey include common buzzard, red kite, kestrel and booted eagle.  

Plants
The vegetation around the lake is reedmace, tamarisk and rushes. Further out from the water’s edge are the trees ash, acacia and poplars along with olive groves.
