Garganta de los Infiernos Nature Reserve
La Garganta de los Infiernos is located 124 kilometres from Caceres and is within the municipal areas of Tornavacas, Cabezuela del Valle and Jerte. It consists of a vast network of rivers and waterfalls which have carved out the surrounding rocks.
Monfrague National Park
The Monfrague National Park is located between Navalmoral de la Mata, Plasencia and Trujillo and covers 17,000 ha. The landscape includes dry open pastures, woodland, rocky outcrops, a reservoir and is crossed by the rivers Tagus and Tietar. It is particularly popular with bird watchers and is home to the largest colony of black vultures in the world.
Natural Park of Cornalvo
The Natural Park of Cornalvo is situated close to Mérida, the capital of Extremadura. It covers 10,570ha and includes two mountain ranges which run parallel to each other in an east-west direction; these are the Sierra del Moro and Sierra Bermeja. It also includes the Cornalvo reservoir and its Roman dam which was created to supply water to Mérida. The ground is littered with large granite boulders.
